More Than a Bowling Club
Community • Friendship • Respect
Skelmanthorpe Central Bowling Club is proud to be at the heart of our local community. Although crown green bowling is central to everything we do, our club is about much more than the matches played on the green. It is a welcoming place where people can meet, make friends, enjoy gentle exercise and feel part of something special.
Our club is built around three important values: community, friendship and respect. These words are displayed proudly on our welcome sign and represent how we want everyone to feel when they visit us.

A Club for the Community
Skelmanthorpe Central has been part of village life since 1911. Today, we remain committed to protecting the club for future generations while making it welcoming and accessible to as many people as possible.
We want the bowling green to be a place that brings people together. We welcome experienced bowlers, complete beginners, families, community organisations and anyone who would simply like to meet new people.
The club is supported by dedicated members, volunteers, local businesses and sponsors who generously give their time, skills and financial support. Their contribution helps us improve our facilities, organise activities and keep the club moving forward.
Bowling for Everyone
You do not need to have played crown green bowls before to join us. New players of all ages and abilities are welcome, and our members will be happy to explain the game and help you get started.
Bowling offers gentle exercise, fresh air and friendly competition. It can be enjoyed socially or competitively, depending on what suits you. Members can take part in informal roll-ups, friendly fixtures, club competitions and league matches throughout the season.
We also welcome enquiries from other bowling clubs wishing to arrange home or away friendly matches.
Friendship on and off the Green
One of the greatest things about crown green bowling is the friendships it creates. Matches may be competitive, but they are also social occasions where people can enjoy good company and support one another.
Our aim is to provide a friendly atmosphere where every person is valued. Whether you are playing, volunteering, supporting a match or simply visiting the club, you will receive a warm Skelmanthorpe Central welcome.
Respect for Everyone
Respect is at the centre of our club. We expect players, members and visitors to treat one another fairly and kindly, both on and off the green.
We respect the traditions of crown green bowling while continuing to develop the club for the future. We are proud of our history, our facilities and the people who work hard to care for them.
Building for the Future
Skelmanthorpe Central Bowling Club is working to become an even stronger community facility. We want to attract new members, encourage more people to try the sport and create opportunities for people of different ages and backgrounds to become involved.
Whether you would like to play, volunteer, sponsor the club, arrange a match or support one of our events, we would be delighted to hear from you.
